MY STORY
My Journey
I've learned nothing ever occurs in a vacuum. There's always context to the choices we make. So how did I choose writing, editing and design?
Maybe it was my love for a well-told story, my almost dire need to document events or my sheer curiosity for the people and events around me. Whatever it was, with my mother's encouragement, I chose to become a professional journalist.
That choice would lead me to tell the story of a woman whose passion for her community would launch her into the national spotlight. I would face fear, and death, and agree to ride in a monster mud derby. It was only after I was sitting in the front seat with a helmet on that the driver warned he had no seatbelt for me and took off toward the track. I would write interview interesting people Ken Burns and Sarah Brightman and find myself covering the atrocities people commit.
The drudgery of covering crime sparked a move to editing. There I learned the art of letting someone else's voice through, while correcting for grammar, spelling, and verbosity. I learned to page design and how to package words, photos and graphics for stories.
Then I got married and moved more than once for my husband's career. I edited; I taught; I wrote and I decided finding a job in every new city was for the birds!
So, building on my almost 20-year career, I opened Michele Joseph Creative Solutions.
